I was really excited to try out the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent for my latest camping trip. This tent is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors, whether you’re a solo hiker, or a couple looking for a lightweight and spacious tent.

The Naturehike Mongar Tent is available in an ultralight 15D, a cheaper 20D nylon or rougher and even cheaper, but somewhat heavier, 210T polyester version.

They all have a silicone coating to ensure protection from the elements with a 2000-4000 mm waterproof rating.

In this review I have tested the 20D nylon version, which is a good middle-way option when it comes to price vs. weight performance.

It’s a dome shaped tent that makes it easy to set up and take down, so you can get on with enjoying your trip instead of worrying about setting up your tent.

The Mongar 2 is designed with both comfort and convenience in mind. It has two doors and two mesh windows that provide ample ventilation while keeping out unwanted insects.

Naturehike Mongar 2
  • Lightweight yet spacious 2 person tent
  • Included footprint, straps and stuff sack
  • Same materials as expensive brands
  • Ultralight 15D option available
  • 2-door design and quality zippers
  • Optional large vestibule add-on

The design of the tent also makes it perfect for all but the worst weather conditions – it’s waterproof and windproof, so you can stay dry even in heavy rain or windy conditions.

At a minimum weight of just 1.6kg/3.6lbs (without accessories), the Mongar 2 is incredibly lightweight and easy to carry between two people.

Plus, it comes in several colors and sizes so you can find one that suits your needs perfectly!

If you already know that the Mongar is not exactly your cup of tea (or coffee?), check out my full walkthrough of 20 lightweight budget tents here.

Versatile Lightweight Hiking Tent on a Budget!

The Naturehike Mongar 2 is an incredibly versatile and lightweight hiking tent that I absolutely love. It’s perfect for backpackers who don’t want to compromise on quality, but also need something that won’t weigh them down.

It’s free-standing, or can be fully guyed-out if you need extra stability, and can be pitched inner only, flysheet only, or inner first for added protection in extreme weather. The 6 stakes included are the really nice lightweight ones you’d find at REI (for around $4 each).

The mongar tent comes with a ground sheet, stuff sack and a strap which weighs just over 2kgs (4.5 lbs) in total for the 20D version. Slightly less for the 15D version and more for the 210T version.

The tent is made from quality nylon and polyester materials that are both durable and waterproof. There’s plenty of room inside for two adults with plenty of headroom.

The design of the tent maximizes airflow and provides great comfort in all kinds of weather. The ground cover is waterproof and helps keep the tent floor dry in wet conditions.

I love how lightweight the tent is – the 20D version weighs around 2 kg (4.5 lbs) and packs down nice and small for convenient transport.

The dual layer design helps keep you warm in cold temperatures, while the free standing design means you can set it up quickly and easily.

The two person model is roomy enough for one person with enough space to store your gear as well. With a variety of colors and sizes available, there’s sure to be a Naturehike Mongar 2 that fits your needs perfectly!

Tent Construction and Design

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is constructed with a strong, lightweight and waterproofed 20D nylon or 210T polyester fabric that’s been built to withstand even the toughest weather conditions.

The design of this tent also ensures maximum comfort, as all seams have been taped to prevent water leaking through.

I used the green 20D version of the Mongar Tent. (Click for price on Amazon or AliExpress)

Additionally, it comes with a ground cover and stakes for added protection, so you can rest assured that your tent will stay dry throughout your camping trip.

The tent has a symmetrical design with two side doors, which can be either half opened or opened all the way for better ventilation.

Setup is simple and easy, too – just follow the instructions on the flysheet and you should have it up in no time.

What’s more, the dual layer design allows you to set up the tent without having to worry about rain getting into the cabin.

The Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is also incredibly roomy – even though it’s designed for two people, it’s still light enough for one person to carry I would say.

If you need something slighty bigger for two people, go for the Naturehike Star River 2 instead.

Vestibule add-on

In addition to the fairly spacious area between the sleeping cabin and the fly sheet, you can buy an attachable vestibule, which significantly expands the tent!

The Mongar tent vestibule add-on.

The Mongar expansion vestibule almost doubles the volume of the tent, while only adding 0.64kgs of extra weight.

I did not try this one yet, but I would recommend if you need the extra space and weight is less of an issue e.g. for bikepacking with a tent or simply when camping with a car.

Mongar 2 is Durable and Waterproof

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is incredibly durable and waterproof, making it an ideal choice for any hiking or camping adventure.

The tent I have used is made with a high quality 20D nylon material which is both waterproof and breathable due to its surface waterproofing treatment, so you can stay dry and comfortable even in the worst weather conditions.

The tent I tested (20D nylon) features a PU 3000mm waterproof coating and taped seams which provide complete protection from the elements.

Additionally, the tent is designed with lightweight aluminum poles and stakes, making it easy to set up and take down.

I’ve been using this tent for the past few months, and it has held up great even in heavy rains.

It’s definitely one of the most reliable tents I’ve ever owned and I’d highly recommend it for anyone looking for a durable and waterproof shelter for weekend or multi day hiking or car camping etc.

Mongar 15D vs 20D fly sheet options

Most Naturehike tents are made from either 20D nylon or 210T polyester. However, the Mongar 2 tent comes in a 15D nylon version as well.

The 15D version of the mongar 2 tent is advertised to be lighter but slightly less water tolerant.

The best similarly priced tent that is lighter than the Mongar 15D is the 10D Cloud Up from Naturehike.

The 15D version is supposed to be lighter be a few hundred grams, but it does not always seem like that in real life use as shown in the video below:

It’s in Indonesian, but you can choose english subtitles. It shows the tent well.

I think they might have included the footprint or more pegs in the 15D version when weighing it…

However, if you are not wildly concerned with the weight, go for the 20D version like I did.

Lightweight and Easy to Carry

As a backpacker, I know how important it is to have a lightweight and easy-to-carry tent.  It packs down to just 18” x 6”, so it fits easily into any backpack. It also comes with an included carrying sack so you can transport it with ease.

This tent is so lightweight that I barely notice the extra weight in my pack! Plus, with its free-standing design, I can pitch the tent quickly and easily without needing to rely on stakes or guylines. All in all, Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is a great choice for anyone looking for an ultra-lightweight and easy-to-carry tent.

Just over 4lbs for the Entire Set

With this lightweight package, you can finally forget all your worries while packing because the entire set weighs just 4lbs. Wherever you go on hiking or camping, whether it is a solo getaway or with company; Naturehike Mongar tent has got your back for sure! By carrying such little weight and still coming along everywhere with ease gives an absolute edge to its user in accomplishing great summer adventures.

Features and Comfort of the Mongar 2

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a versatile, lightweight tent. It’s designed to provide maximum comfort and weatherproofing, while still keeping weight to a minimum.

The tent I have tested is made from 20D nylon, which is both strong and lightweight, and it’s coated with silicone for added weather protection. The tent also features a dual layer design, making it free-standing and rain-pitchable.

There are also plenty of pockets both inside and outside the tent, providing ample storage space or drying options for your wet clothes.

The ground cover is well-made and includes stakes that help keep the tent firmly in place in windy conditions.

When it comes to comfort, the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent does not disappoint. It has plenty of room for two people to sleep comfortably and enough headroom to sit up and move around without feeling cramped.

But the best part about the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is that it can also be used as a one-person tent.

This means you can have plenty of room to spread out with no issues, even if you are camping alone. The design also ensures that you stay warm and dry in any weather condition while still remaining lightweight enough for easy transport.

Overall, the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a quality, durable yet affordable tent.

It’s perfect for one person who likes a bit more room to spread out or a couple who wants the convenience of a two-person model without sacrificing comfort or durability.

With its versatile design, lightweight construction, and excellent weatherproofing, this tent has all you need for comfortable camping trips in any season!

Y-Frame Structure for Easy and Quick Setup

Now, tent setup usually has a certain reputation for being difficult and time consuming but this tent is here to change all that!

Thanks to its unique Y-Frame Structure you can set your campsite in no time flat. Its so easy it almost takes the fun out of pitching camp altogether.

Unless you like erecting tents, which one of us (me!) weirdos actually probably do, then worry not, because with Naturehike Mongar Tent it’s still arguably fun setting up your home away from home anyways!

Capacity

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Tent is perfect for couples or for solo adventurers who want a bit more room. With a generous two-person capacity, this tent comfortably sleeps two people and still has plenty of room to store your gear.

The size of this tent is perfect for two people, measuring 135x210x105cm. It also includes 50x15cm of storage space to keep your essentials safe and secure.

I tested it alone using my trusted Naturehike CW300 sleeping bag and my silent big Agnes sleeping pad, which resulted in a great night of sleep.

For anyone over 6′ (185cm) it might be a bit snug, but it’s great for one person with a big sleeping bag.

The spacious interior is designed with two people in mind, featuring two separate sleeping compartments with a large shared living area.

This makes it easy to keep your stuff organized and out of the way while still providing plenty of room to move around and relax.

Pretty good volume and plenty of space for two people along with backpacks in the mongar 2 tent.

The tent is also designed to be both lightweight and durable, making it the perfect choice for backpacking trips.

The tent’s double-layer construction is waterproof and provides excellent weather protection, while the included ground cover and stakes provide extra protection from the elements.

Plus, the free-standing design makes setup a breeze, so you can get out and explore faster.

If you need more space, the 3 person Cloud Up Tent or the Opalus 3 or 4 person tents might be better for you!

Overall, the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is an excellent choice for couples or solo adventurers who want a lightweight yet spacious tent that is comfortable and roomy enough for two people but still cozy enough for one.

With its durable construction, superior waterproofing, and easy setup, this tent will be your go-to companion on your next camping adventure.

The 2 Person Model is Also Comfortable and Roomy for One Person

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Tent is a great choice for those wanting a tent that is both comfortable and roomy enough for one person.

It is truly amazing that a two person tent can be so versatile and accommodating for a single hiker. The tent is lightweight, easy to carry and setup, and it provides plenty of space for one or two people.

Ground Cover and Stakes

The ground cover for the Naturehike Mongar tent is an excellent addition that is always included with the tent (at least that’s what Naturehike told me!). It is made from a thick nylon material that is silicone coated for extra durability.

The stakes that come with the tent are perfect for securing the tent to the ground and keeping it in place.

I was particularly impressed with how well the ground cover keeps out moisture and sharp objects. Even in heavy rain, my tent stayed dry inside.

The stakes are also easy to put in place and can be adjusted to fit any terrain.

Overall, the ground cover and stakes are an essential part of this tent, and they both do a great job of keeping me warm, dry, and comfortable while I’m out camping.

Dual Layer, Free Standing and Rain-pitchable

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a versatile, lightweight tent that can handle rain.

The dual layer construction and free-standing design mean that this tent is great for pitching in the rain, allowing you to stay warm and dry no matter the weather.

The two person model is surprisingly roomy and comfortable for one person, making it perfect for solo adventures.

It’s also lightweight and easy to carry, so you can take it with you wherever you go. With this tent’s durable waterproofing and excellent design for maximum comfort, you’ll be able to camp in comfort no matter where your travels take you.

Color and Size options

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is available in numerous colors—Blue, white, purple and different shades of Green—so you can choose the one that best suits your style.

It’s also made with a free-standing, double-Y-frame design that allows for maximum space and easy setup.

Overall, the Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an affordable, lightweight option with plenty of room for two people.

Its water- and windproof construction, free-standing design, and ample storage make it perfect for any camping or hiking trip. Plus, with its two color options, you can find the one that best suits your style!

Verdict: 91/100

The assembly process was fairly effortless, as expected from such an acclaimed product. The tent is also free standing which eliminates any need of guylines or stakes so that saved me some extra time as well!

My fellow campers were surprised at how much room it created, given its size; however, you can sleep comfortably inside if both persons abide by general accommodation courtesies 🙂

Despite being spacious enough it packs quickly into small compartments without compromising weight or water resistance perfect for those weekend adventures away in the wilderness!

And heres the big one when packing down again you dont have to worry about taking out dust particles that sneak their way in while setting – everything stays clean after breaking camp which really sealed my love affair with this tent.

All-in-all they’ve designed a high quality camping solution worth every penny spent but let’s face it… nobody cares unless we talk performance: I’d happily rate Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent 91/100!

The mongar might not be for everyone though, and some people just like a different form factor. That is why I have listed all similarly priced and sized lightweight hiking tents in a summery post here on my blog.

Final Conclusion

I had been searching for a lightweight tent with ample space that could accommodate two people and Naturehike Mongar 2 Tent seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

After researching all options I decided on this model and set up my campsite accordingly.

The construction and design of the tent are top-notch, making it both durable and waterproof. The two-layer design allows for free standing or rain-pitchable set-up, so you can choose whichever option best suits your needs.

The tent also comes with an optional ground cover, which helps keep the interior dry and warm. The stakes included are also of very good quality, ensuring the tent is securely in place even in windy conditions.

The Naturehike Mongar 2 Person Backpacking Tent also offers great features and comfort when it comes to sleeping.

It can easily fit up to two full sized sleeping bags, providing ample room for both people to sleep comfortably. The walls of the tent are also designed to provide maximum ventilation, which helps keep the interior dry and comfortable even on hot summer nights.

It’s also nice that this model comes in a variety of colors and sizes, so you can choose the one that best suits your camping needs.

For example, if you’re looking for a more lightweight version of the tent, there are smaller sizes available as well as larger ones if you need more space for your gear.

Overall, this two person model from Naturehike is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for an affordable backpacking tent that is both comfortable and roomy enough for one person.

With its excellent design, durable construction and waterproof materials, this tent will provide you with all the features and comfort you need on your next camping trip!
